Commercial Administrator

Freedom has an exciting opportunity for a Commercial Administrator to join our Distribution Substations team based in Wakefield. Supporting the Commercial Manager, Operations Manager and wider project teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the smooth commercial and administrative management of substation construction, refurbishment and asset replacement projects.

This role is ideal for a highly organised individual with strong attention to detail, commercial awareness and excellent administrative skills who enjoys working in a fast-paced project environment.

Some of the key deliverables in this role will include:
  • Create and maintain projects within Freedom's financial and works management systems.
  • Support the preparation and submission of client applications, valuations and monthly reporting.
  • Assist with Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), forecasting and commercial reporting processes.
  • Raise purchase orders, process invoices and manage goods receipts.
  • Monitor project costs and highlight discrepancies to the Commercial Team.
  • Support subcontractor and franchisee onboarding, administration and compliance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records of variations, compensation events and client instructions.
  • Support debt management activities and resolve invoice queries in a timely manner.
  • Issue work instructions to subcontractors and franchise partners.
  • Coordinate project documentation, filing systems and project mobilisation activities.
  • Arrange plant, materials, traffic management and welfare requirements for projects.
  • Liaise with operational teams regarding programme updates and resource requirements.
  • Act as a point of contact for clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
  • Produce and distribute financial and performance reports.
  • Maintain accurate records within systems including FocalPoint, JTE, SharePoint and client portals.
  • Support month-end processes and commercial close-out activities.
  • Promote Freedom's Safety First culture and ensure compliance with governance and company procedures.
What We're Looking For

Essential:

  • Previous administrative experience within construction, utilities, engineering or infrastructure sectors.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Experience managing project, financial or commercial information.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • GCSE (or equivalent) Grade C/4 or above in Maths and English.

Desirable:

  • Experience working within a Distribution Network Operator (DNO) environment.
  • Experience supporting power, utility, civil engineering or substation projects.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts.
  • Experience with subcontractor management and procurement processes.
  • Understanding of project cost control, forecasting and commercial reporting.
  • Experience using project, finance or works management systems.
  • NVQ Level 3 Business Administration.
  • AAT qualification or studying towards.
  • NEC Awareness Training.
