Chemical Risk Advisor/COSHH Coordinator
Hinkley Point C - Bridgwater
Permanent – Full Time
NG Bailey are seeking a highly organised and technically skilled chemical risk advisor to join the MEH Alliance at Hinkley Point C, providing specialist chemical management expertise across one of Europe’s largest construction projects.
This is a full-time permanent position based on the project in Bridgwater, we do offer generous uplifts and benefits for applicants wanting to work away through the week.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with COSHH legislation, environmental permits, REACH requirements, and project wide chemical governance standards.
- Oversee the safe, compliant, and controlled use of COSHH regulated products across the project lifecycle, supporting the Environmental Lead and wider HSE team in delivering robust chemical and environmental assurance.
- Accountable for supporting the implementation and ongoing compliance of site activities with relevant environmental legislation, permits, and regulatory requirements.
- Responsible for monitoring and managing aspects at key interface points between subcontractors and operational areas to minimise environmental risk and prevent non-compliance.
- Assist in the investigation, reporting, and close out of environmental incidents and non-conformances, ensuring lessons learned are captured and communicated.
- Accountable for identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance, promote sustainability, and contribute to a culture of environmental responsibility.
- Support the identification, assessment, and control of COSHH risks across all site operations, ensuring appropriate mitigation measures are in place and effective.
- Manage, track, and maintain an accurate inventory of 500+ chemical products, ensuring up‑to‑date records of approval status, storage locations, usage, and disposal routes.
- Produce, review, and approve COSHH assessments, ensuring they are technically robust, legally compliant, and accessible to all relevant teams.
- Coordinate the full lifecycle of new chemical submissions, including SDS review, environmental impact checks, compatibility with site permits, and final approval.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS), chemical registers, COSHH documentation, and ensure all information is current and aligned with regulatory updates.
- Deliver or support on training, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns to improve chemical safety culture across the project.
- Ensure that where relevant, DSEAR assessments are in place, appropriate controls managed.
Requirements:
- Documented experience of undertaking COSHH assessments across large/complex sites and projects.
- Awareness of the requirements of DSEAR
- Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a science (ideally chemistry) discipline (or similar)
- Successfully completed the British Occupational Hygiene Society’s P304 course (COSHH - Fundamentals of Risk Assessment and Control) or demonstrable equivalent, training for this can be provided should the applicant hold other relevant HSE qualifications (such as NEBOSH) and experience.

Works include the design and installation of circa 76,000 cables totalling over 3,000km in length; over 180km of cable containment support systems; fire and environmental sealing; design and installation of earthing systems, and specialist packages associated with data acquisition and plant control.
